I have a lot to learn. So many choices and so many ways to engage yourself and students with technology. It seems like it is best to pick 1 or 2 new things and really explore them so you can really utilize them well.
The purpose of the wiki I came up with is to allow students at my school to post book reviews of books they have recently read. Students would enter a 1 or 2 paragraph text review and a 1 to 4 star review as well. Students would also discuss and debate which book series they like the best and why. There could be wikis within the main wiki. The subwikis would be for Harry Potter discussion, or Charlie Bone, or Series of Unfortunate Events.
The advantage of a wiki is that you can give and see instant feedback. You can read what others have initiated, or what they wrote in response to you. It is an on-going dialogue that can change from one minute to the next. I think this would appeal to students. One of the disadvantages I see is that you can post what you want and say anything. A student could write something inappropriate. Also, entries can accidentally, or purposefully, get erased or changed.
I think the "digital natives" are in their element with a wiki. Instant feedback, power to express thoughts with few restraints, and a forum for their views and ideas.
When I explored the eLearning Tools Wiki, I thought the vlogging would be kind of interesting to explore. There are so many ways to incorporate new technologies. It's kind of mind numbing!!, but in a fun way!!
